A Hidden Gem Just Beyond the Bustle of Nashville

The Golf Club of Tennessee is more than just a country club—it’s a sanctuary for those who cherish community, golf, and nature’s tranquility. Whether stopping by for lunch or playing a leisurely nine holes, I’ve always treasured the peaceful retreat this club offers.

Crafting a Masterpiece

Over 30 years ago, famed course designer Tom Fazio and his trusted associate Tom Marzolf were given a challenge: “Design the very best golf course you are capable of.” Rising to the occasion, they sculpted a stunning masterpiece just west of Nashville in Kingston Springs. Spanning 317 acres of dense forests, rocky ridges, and serene river valleys, The Golf Club of Tennessee delivers an exceptional golf experience—one free from the constraints of tee times and distractions.

Since its inception, the course has garnered prestigious accolades. In its first year, Golf Digest named it runner-up for Best New Private Course in America. It consistently ranks among Tennessee’s finest, and Golf Week has included it in America’s 100 Best Modern Courses. For 2023-24, it holds the 167th spot in the Second 100 Greatest Courses. The club’s reputation is further cemented by hosting notable events like The Vinny Pro-Celebrity-Am, The DICK’S Sporting Goods Collegiate Challenge Cup, and the 2018 U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship.

The Course: Design Excellence in Every Hole

Tom Fazio’s design philosophy shines throughout the 7,184-yard layout. Featuring Zoysia fairways, Bermuda roughs, and A1 bent grass greens, the course covers nearly twice the acreage of a typical 18-hole course. Each hole offers strategic challenges, perfectly blending with the natural landscape for a truly memorable round.

Course Highlights:

  • The first two holes gently wind along the flat valley of Brush Creek.

  • The par-4 third hole ascends uphill through thick trees to a green perched on a bluff.

  • The par-3 fourth demands a precise carry over a dramatic chasm.

  • The par-3 eighth plays directly over the river, while the ninth follows its rocky edge.

  • The back nine boasts the scenic par-3 16th over Brush Creek and a unique dual-fairway par-5 17th.

The Clubhouse & Lodging

The centerpiece is a stunning 31,000-square-foot antebellum-style clubhouse, housing a golf shop, locker rooms, dining spaces, and four guest suites. Its welcoming ambiance, with expansive porches overlooking the 10th and 18th holes, creates the perfect setting to relax after a round.

In 2012, the luxurious Ingram Cabin was added—a three-building complex featuring two sleeping cabins and a great room, all connected by a covered porch overlooking the practice facility. Guests also enjoy exclusive access to a 6-acre lighted short-game area with two Bermuda practice greens, elevating the club’s lodging appeal.

A New Era of Excellence

The Golf Club of Tennessee continues to evolve under the visionary leadership of David Ingram, president of the club and son of co-founder Bronson Ingram. In 2018, David made a bold move to preserve the club’s natural tranquility by acquiring 560 acres for a second 18-hole course designed by the acclaimed Gil Hanse. Named “The Upper,” this new course is scheduled to open this year, promising to uphold the club’s dedication to natural beauty and attract premier amateur golf events.

David Ingram’s passion for the game, a legacy from his late father, fuels these exciting developments. His vision and commitment ensure that The Golf Club of Tennessee remains a top destination for golfers seeking both challenge and serenity.

The Golf Club of Tennessee isn’t just a golf venue—it’s a vibrant community and a peaceful haven that honors the timeless spirit of the game. Whether you’re an experienced player or just discovering golf, the club offers a unique blend of challenge and stunning surroundings. Come experience golf the way it was meant to be played—in a place where you can truly unwind.
